Kilimanjaro Climb – Day 1 – August 2, 2010 – At the hotel
The first video of the Kilimanjaro climb. We are still at the Springlands Hotel in Moshi, Tanzania on the morning of August 2. At this point, Mike still didn't have his gear, but we are ready to check out of the hotel, get in the Land Rovers and take the 3 hour drive from the hotel to the Londorossi Gate.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Day 5 (Part 5 of 8)
Day six: www.youtube.com A mini documentary about climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. We took the "alternative" Lemosho route to climb. You can clearly see what alternative means by looking at the animated map at the end of each video. It involves almost circling around the mountain. We started along the usual Lemosho route camping at the Forest camp and at the Shira plateau. Then we headed north deviating from the usual route and camped at the Moir huts. From there we proceeded around the back of the mountain to Pofu campsite and then to the 3rd caves camp where our trail joined the Rongai route. Then we headed to the School huts for a brief stop before the summit push. Except for the first and second camps and the summit we essentially had the mountain to ourselves. This adventure was the best experience of my life so far. I cannot thank our guide Freddie and assistant guides Prosper and John enough. Their experience and knowledge was invaluable in helping us reach the summit. I would also like to thank Henry Stedman from www.climbmountkilimanjaro.com for making all this possible.
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro: Machame Route
This slideshow gives you a great idea of what climbing Kilimanjaro is like. This shows the Machame Route with an extra acclimatisation day added in - which gives you an excellent chance of a successful summit.
